Red Hat has released updated topology aware lifecycle manager images for OpenShift Container Platform 4.22 that address this vulnerability. Users should upgrade to these updated packages and images following the official Red Hat documentation for cluster upgrades and asynchronous errata updates. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the vendor-provided update.
Description
A vulnerability (CVE-2026-84445) in gRPC-Go affects servers created with xds.NewGRPCServer(), allowing a remote client to send malformed RPC requests missing required :authority or Host headers. This triggers an index-out-of-bounds panic, causing the server process to crash and resulting in a denial of service (DoS). The issue primarily impacts deployments using xDS-managed gRPC servers. Standard gRPC servers without xDS routing are not affected. In environments with mutual TLS (mTLS), exploitation is limited to authenticated peers. Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.22 includes updated topology aware lifecycle manager images addressing this issue. Users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages and images.
