Red Hat has released updated packages and container images for the topology aware lifecycle manager in OpenShift Container Platform 5.0 that address this vulnerability. All users of OpenShift Container Platform 5.0 are advised to upgrade to these updated packages and images following the official Red Hat upgrade documentation. No additional mitigations are required if the update is applied. For environments enforcing mutual TLS, the risk is further reduced as authentication is required before reaching the vulnerable code path.
Description
A vulnerability (CVE-2026-84445) exists in gRPC-Go servers created with xds.NewGRPCServer() used in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 5.0 CNF vRAN extras topology aware lifecycle manager. A remote client can send a malformed RPC request missing required :authority or Host headers, causing an index-out-of-bounds panic that crashes the server process, resulting in denial of service. This issue affects deployments using xDS-managed gRPC servers and may be exploitable without authentication in some cases. Standard gRPC servers not using xDS routing are not affected. Mutual TLS environments require authentication before exploitation is possible. Red Hat has released updated packages and images to address this issue and advises all users to upgrade accordingly.
