AI-suggested

Red Hat has not provided a fix or effective mitigation for this vulnerability at this time. Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for updates. Restricting code execution privileges and limiting access to Python environments where setuptools is used may reduce risk but are not official mitigations.

Description

CVE-2025-47273 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Python setuptools library used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI 1.5 (AMD). It allows attackers with limited code execution privileges to write files outside the intended temporary directory by manipulating package download URLs, bypassing filename sanitization. This can lead to unauthorized overwrites of critical system files, potentially causing persistent code execution or system misconfiguration. The vulnerability does not expose confidential data or enable privilege escalation beyond the same security boundary. No fix is currently available from Red Hat.
