What to do

AI-suggested

No effective mitigation or patch currently meets Red Hat Product Security's criteria for ease of use, applicability, or stability. Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for future updates. Exploitation requires limited code execution access, so restricting such access and controlling execution environments may reduce risk until a fix is available.

Description

CVE-2025-47273 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Python setuptools library used by Red Hat Developer Hub. It allows attackers with limited code execution access to write files outside the intended temporary directory by manipulating package download URLs, bypassing filename sanitization. This can lead to unauthorized overwrites of important system files, potentially enabling persistent code execution or system misconfiguration. The vulnerability does not expose confidential data or enable privilege escalation beyond the same security boundary. No patch or mitigation currently meets Red Hat's criteria for deployment.
