AI-suggested

Red Hat has not provided a fix or mitigation that meets their criteria for ease of use, applicability, or stability. Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for future updates. Until a patch is available, limiting code execution privileges in Python environments and avoiding untrusted package sources may reduce risk, but no official mitigation is currently endorsed by Red Hat.

Description

CVE-2025-47273 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Python setuptools library used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI 1.5 (NVIDIA). It allows an attacker with limited code execution privileges in a Python environment to write files outside the intended temporary directory by manipulating package download URLs. This can lead to unauthorized overwrites of important system files, potentially causing persistent code execution or system misconfiguration. The vulnerability does not expose confidential data or enable cross-boundary access and does not inherently cause denial of service. No fix is currently available from Red Hat.
