AI-suggested
Red Hat has not provided an official fix or mitigation that meets their criteria for ease of use, applicability, or stability. Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for updates. Since exploitation requires limited code execution privileges, restricting such access and carefully controlling Python environment usage may reduce risk. Customers with a Technical Account Manager (TAM) can consult directly for guidance. No immediate patch or workaround is currently available.
Description
CVE-2025-47273 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Python setuptools library used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI 1.5 (NVIDIA). It allows attackers with limited code execution privileges in a Python environment to write files outside the intended temporary directory by manipulating package download URLs. This can lead to unauthorized overwrites of important system files, potentially causing persistent code execution or system misconfiguration. The vulnerability does not expose confidential data or enable privilege escalation beyond the same security boundary. No official fix or mitigation meeting Red Hat's criteria is currently available.
