AI-suggested

Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for updates. Since exploitation requires limited code execution access, restricting such access and carefully controlling Python environment usage can reduce risk. Customers with a Red Hat Technical Account Manager (TAM) can consult directly for tailored guidance. No generic mitigations are recommended by Red Hat at this time.

Description

CVE-2025-47273 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Python setuptools library used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux AI 1.5 (NVIDIA). It allows an attacker with limited code execution privileges in a Python environment to write files outside the intended temporary directory by manipulating package download URLs. This can lead to unauthorized overwrites of critical system files, potentially causing persistent code execution or system misconfiguration. The vulnerability does not expose confidential data or enable privilege escalation beyond the same security boundary. No patch or mitigation currently meets Red Hat's criteria for deployment.
