CVE-2026-6019: CWE-150 Improper neutralization of escape, meta, or control sequences in Python Software Foundation CPython

0
Low
Published: Wed Apr 22 2026 (04/22/2026, 19:28:08 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Vendor/Project: Python Software Foundation
Product: CPython

Description

http.cookies.Morsel.js_output() returns an inline <script> snippet and only escapes " for JavaScript string context. It does not neutralize the HTML parser-sensitive sequence </script> inside the generated script element. Mitigation base64-encodes the cookie value to disallow escaping using cookie value.

Technical Analysis

Red Hat issued a security advisory (RHSA-2026:22952) for Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs involving python3.14 packages. The update includes numerous python3.14 RPMs across architectures (aarch64, x86_64, noarch). The vulnerability CVE-2026-6019 is associated with CWE-79 (Cross-Site Scripting). The advisory does not explicitly state that a fix is available or provide patch links, nor does it mention known exploits in the wild. The update is described as a bug fix and enhancement update but lacks detailed remediation instructions.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability is classified as medium severity and relates to CWE-79, indicating a potential Cross-Site Scripting issue. This could allow an attacker to inject malicious scripts if exploited, potentially impacting the security of applications relying on the affected python3.14 RPMs within Red Hat Hardened Images. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. The advisory references an update including new RPM versions but does not explicitly confirm that these updates fix the vulnerability. Users should monitor Red Hat's official errata and security advisory pages for the availability of patches and apply updates as recommended by Red Hat once confirmed.
