AI-suggested

Red Hat provides an updated oauth2-proxy package version 7.15.5-0.1.hum1 as a fix. Until patching, mitigation can be achieved by configuring oauth2-proxy to explicitly restrict trusted proxy IP addresses using the --trusted-proxy-ip parameter or by sanitizing the X-Forwarded-Uri header at the perimeter reverse proxy (e.g., NGINX) to prevent header spoofing. These mitigations require restarting or reloading the affected services. Users should apply the update from Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs and follow the vendor advisory instructions.

Description

A security advisory from Red Hat addresses vulnerabilities in the oauth2-proxy component included in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs. One notable flaw (CVE-2026-76835) allows an unauthenticated remote attacker to bypass authentication when oauth2-proxy is configured in reverse proxy mode without explicit trusted proxy settings. This occurs because the proxy trusts all incoming traffic as from trusted proxies by default, enabling attackers to forge headers and gain unauthorized access to protected upstream services. The advisory provides configuration mitigations and updates the oauth2-proxy package to version 7.15.5-0.1.hum1. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
