AI-suggested

Red Hat has released an update including caddy-2.11.7-0.1.hum1 in their Hardened Images RPMs to address this vulnerability. Applying this update will remediate the issue. Applications that do not use the Nickname profile or that allocate appropriately sized buffers are not susceptible. No additional mitigations are specified by Red Hat.

Description

CVE-2026-56851 is a denial of service vulnerability in the golang.org/x/text library's Nickname profile. An attacker can submit specially crafted input that triggers an out-of-bounds slice indexing error, causing the application to panic and crash. This affects applications that use the Nickname profile to normalize or validate user-provided strings against undersized buffers. The vulnerability is rated as important due to the potential for remote unauthenticated attackers to cause service crashes. Red Hat has issued an update including caddy-2.11.7-0.1.hum1 to address this issue in their Hardened Images RPMs. The vulnerability does not affect applications that do not use the Nickname profile or that allocate sufficiently sized buffers.
