AI-suggested

A fixed update is available in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs, including opentelemetry-collector-k8s-0.162.0-0.1.hum1. Users should apply this update to remediate the vulnerability. Applications not using the Nickname profile or that allocate appropriately sized buffers are not susceptible. No additional mitigations are specified by Red Hat.

Description

CVE-2026-56851 is a denial of service vulnerability in the golang.org/x/text library's Nickname profile. An attacker can cause an application panic and crash by submitting specially crafted input that triggers an out-of-bounds slice indexing error when transforming text into an undersized buffer. This affects applications that use the Nickname profile for text normalization or validation with small memory buffers. The vulnerability has been rated as important severity due to the potential for unauthenticated remote attackers to cause service crashes. Red Hat has issued an update for Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including opentelemetry-collector-k8s to address this issue.
