Red Hat has released updated RPM packages for Node.js (nodejs24 and related components) that fix this vulnerability. Systems configured to automatically restart crashed services can mitigate availability impact. No other effective mitigations meeting Red Hat criteria are available. Users should apply the provided updates from Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs to remediate this issue.
Description
A vulnerability in Node.js TLS error handling can cause denial of service by crashing or exhausting resources of a TLS server when using pskCallback or ALPNCallback. Uncaught synchronous exceptions during these callbacks bypass normal TLS error handling, leading to process termination or resource leaks. This affects TLS servers processing attacker-controlled input during the handshake. Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs have been updated to address this issue.
