AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated libpng RPM packages (version 1.6.56-1.1.hum1) that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to Red Hat Hardened Images to remediate the issue. Until the update is applied, users should avoid processing untrusted or suspicious PNG files with applications using libpng to mitigate the risk of denial of service.

Description

A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in libpng versions 1.6.43 through 1.6.46 in the png_create_read_struct() function. This flaw allows a local attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) by processing a specially crafted PNG file, potentially causing the system to become unresponsive or crash. The vulnerability requires local access and user interaction to exploit. Red Hat has released updated RPM packages for libpng to address this issue in their Hardened Images. Users are advised to avoid processing untrusted PNG files to mitigate risk until the update is applied.
