AI-suggested
Red Hat has released updated RPM packages for Red Hat Hardened Images that include fixes for this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to remediate the issue. There is no practical mitigation other than upgrading to fixed versions of the brace-expansion package when they become available. The vulnerability is typically introduced transitively via minimatch or glob, so isolating the package is difficult.
Description
A denial of service vulnerability exists in the brace-expansion npm package used by Red Hat Hardened Images. The expand() function can be exploited with specially crafted input containing consecutive non-expanding brace groups, causing exponential-time complexity that leads to high CPU usage and event-loop blocking. This results in denial of service conditions. The vulnerability is typically introduced transitively via minimatch or glob packages. No practical mitigation exists other than upgrading to a fixed version when available.
