AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated python-idna RPM packages to address this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates as provided by Red Hat. Additionally, applications using the python-idna library should implement input validation to ensure domain names do not exceed 253 characters before calling idna.encode(). This prevents processing of maliciously long inputs and mitigates the denial-of-service risk.

Description

A denial-of-service vulnerability exists in the python-idna library used for handling Internationalized Domain Names in Python applications. The issue arises from an incomplete fix for a previous vulnerability, allowing specially crafted, excessively long inputs to the idna.encode() function to cause excessive CPU consumption and resource exhaustion. This can lead to application unavailability. The vulnerability affects applications that do not validate input length before passing data to the idna.encode() function.
