AI-suggested
Red Hat has released updated RPM packages (podman-sequoia-0.3.2-4.hum1) for affected architectures to fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates as detailed in the Red Hat advisory. Currently, no alternative mitigations meet Red Hat's criteria for ease of use, deployment, or applicability. Therefore, applying the official update is the recommended remediation.
Description
CVE-2026-42784 is a vulnerability in the sequoia-openpgp library where missing key flags in older certificates cause incorrect inference of key capabilities. This flaw allows attackers to bypass the back-signature check, enabling them to illegitimately bind arbitrary subkeys to their own certificates and forge signatures. This compromises cryptographic integrity in affected Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs that use sequoia-openpgp. No mitigation is currently available that meets Red Hat's criteria for ease of use and deployment. A security update including fixed RPMs has been released by Red Hat.
