Red Hat has released updated RPM packages for Node.js 20 in Red Hat Hardened Images that fix this issue. Systems configured according to Red Hat guidelines should have services set to restart automatically on process crashes, mitigating availability impact. No other mitigation options currently meet Red Hat's criteria for ease of use, applicability, or stability. Users should apply the provided updates from Red Hat Hardened Images to remediate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in Node.js TLS error handling can cause denial of service by crashing or exhausting resources of a TLS server when using pskCallback or ALPNCallback. Uncaught synchronous exceptions during these callbacks bypass standard TLS error handling, leading to process termination or resource leaks. This affects Node.js versions where these callbacks throw exceptions without safe wrapping. Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs have been updated with fixes for this issue. Systems configured per Red Hat guidelines should automatically restart services on crash, mitigating availability impact.
