AI-suggested

A fix is available in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs with cpio updated to version 2.15-10.3.hum1. Users should apply this update to remediate the vulnerability. Until patched, users should avoid extracting cpio archives from untrusted or unverified sources as no other effective mitigation is available.

Description

A vulnerability in GNU cpio allows uncontrolled stack memory allocation when processing crafted cpio archives. This can cause the cpio process to crash due to a stack overflow, resulting in denial of service (DoS) on affected systems. The flaw is present in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs shipping cpio versions prior to the fixed update. No effective mitigation other than avoiding extraction of untrusted cpio archives is currently available.
