Description

Redis is an advanced key-value store. It is often referred to as a data-structure server since keys can contain strings, hashes, lists, sets, and sorted sets. For performance, Redis works with an in-memory data set. You can persist it either by dumping the data set to disk every once in a while, or by appending each command to a log. Security Fix(es): * redis: Lua library commands may lead to integer overflow and potential RCE (CVE-2025-46817) * Redis: Redis Lua Use-After-Free may lead to remote code execution (CVE-2025-49844) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.

Technical Analysis

This advisory covers two vulnerabilities in Redis as packaged for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 Extended Update Support. CVE-2025-46817 is an integer overflow issue in Redis Lua library commands that could lead to remote code execution. CVE-2025-49844 is a use-after-free vulnerability in Redis Lua that may also allow remote code execution. Both vulnerabilities are addressed in the updated Redis package version 6.2.7-1.el9_4.5. The update is available for multiple architectures including x86_64, aarch64, s390x, and ppc64le. Red Hat rates the security impact as Important and recommends applying the update to affected systems.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code remotely on affected systems running vulnerable Redis versions. This could lead to full system compromise depending on the privileges of the Redis process. The vulnerabilities involve integer overflow and use-after-free bugs in the Lua scripting component of Redis, which is commonly used for advanced data manipulation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released an updated Redis package (version 6.2.7-1.el9_4.5) that fixes these vulnerabilities. Users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 Extended Update Support should apply this update promptly. For detailed update instructions, refer to the Red Hat advisory article at https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. No other mitigation or workaround is indicated in the advisory.
