Vendor/Project: Red Hat Product Security

Description

Redis is an advanced key-value store. It is often referred to as a data-structure server since keys can contain strings, hashes, lists, sets, and sorted sets. For performance, Redis works with an in-memory data set. You can persist it either by dumping the data set to disk every once in a while, or by appending each command to a log. Security Fix(es): * redis: Lua library commands may lead to integer overflow and potential RCE (CVE-2025-46817) * Redis: Redis: Authenticated users can execute LUA scripts as a different user (CVE-2025-46818) * Redis: Redis is vulnerable to DoS via specially crafted LUA scripts (CVE-2025-46819) * Redis: Redis Lua Use-After-Free may lead to remote code execution (CVE-2025-49844) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.

Technical Analysis

This advisory covers four distinct vulnerabilities in Redis 7 related to its Lua scripting capabilities: CVE-2025-46817 involves integer overflow in Lua library commands potentially leading to remote code execution; CVE-2025-46818 allows authenticated users to execute Lua scripts as a different user; CVE-2025-46819 enables denial of service through specially crafted Lua scripts; and CVE-2025-49844 is a use-after-free vulnerability in Lua that may result in remote code execution. Red Hat has released updated Redis packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 to remediate these issues.

Potential Impact

The vulnerabilities collectively allow for potential remote code execution, privilege misuse by authenticated users, and denial of service conditions in Redis 7 deployments on affected Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 systems. Successful exploitation could compromise system integrity and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released updated Redis packages (version 7.2.11-1.module+el9.7.0+23559+d075163a) for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and its variants that address these vulnerabilities. Users should apply these official updates promptly following Red Hat's guidance at https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
