What to do

AI-suggested

To mitigate the risk, avoid calling prettyPrint(), str(), float(), int(), or performing comparisons or arithmetic on decoded ASN.1 REAL type objects when processing untrusted data. Instead, inspect the raw (mantissa, base, exponent) tuple directly. When logging decoded ASN.1 structures, filter out or sanitize REAL-typed values before conversion to prevent resource exhaustion.

Description

CVE-2026-59886 is a denial of service vulnerability in the pyasn1 library used by Red Hat products processing ASN.1 data. A remote attacker can send specially crafted BER, CER, or DER encoded ASN.1 REAL values with large exponents, causing excessive CPU and memory consumption during decoding operations such as printing, logging, or arithmetic. This resource exhaustion can render the affected service unavailable. The vulnerability affects Red Hat Trusted Artifact Signer used with OpenShift Container Platform versions 4.16 through 4.21. No fix is currently available, and mitigation involves avoiding certain operations on decoded REAL values and sanitizing logs.
