AI-suggested

Red Hat has released an official security update for rsyslog in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 that addresses these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the update as detailed in Red Hat advisory RHSA-2026:80817 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. Applying this update will remediate the issues. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor.

Description

Two security vulnerabilities have been identified in the rsyslog packages used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8. One is a configuration-dependent issue in the optional imptcp input module that can allow an unauthenticated remote peer to crash the rsyslog daemon (CVE-2026-19654). The other is a denial of service vulnerability caused by a heap buffer overflow in the RainerScript replace() function (CVE-2026-78002). These issues can lead to service disruption due to crashes or denial of service conditions.
