Red Hat has released updated Ruby 2.5 packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 that fix these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the official Red Hat update as described in the advisory (https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258) to remediate these issues. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the provided update.
Description
Two security vulnerabilities were addressed in Ruby 2.5 as part of a Red Hat security update. The first is an IMAP command injection vulnerability via symbol arguments (CVE-2026-42258). The second is an information disclosure vulnerability that allows a man-in-the-middle attack to bypass TLS protections (CVE-2026-42246). These issues affect the Net::IMAP library within Ruby and were rated as important by Red Hat Product Security. The update is available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 variants. Detailed CVSS scores and impact information are available on the respective CVE pages.
