Description

Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform is Red Hat's cloud computing Kubernetes application platform solution designed for on-premise or private cloud deployments. This advisory contains the container images for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.20.27. See the following advisory for the RPM packages for this release: https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHBA-2026:29798 Space precludes documenting all of the container images in this advisory. See the following Release Notes documentation, which will be updated shortly for this release, for details about these changes: https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.20/html/release_notes/ Security Fix(es): * samba: Remote Code Execution in SAMR (CVE-2026-4408) * kernel: net/sched: act_pedit: extend the writable skb range per key (CVE-2026-46331) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section. All OpenShift Container Platform 4.20 users are advised to upgrade to these updated packages and images when they are available in the appropriate release channel. To check for available updates, use the OpenShift CLI (oc) or web console. Instructions for upgrading a cluster are available at https://docs.redhat.com/en/documentation/openshift_container_platform/4.20/html-single/updating_clusters/index#updating-cluster-cli.

Technical Analysis

This advisory covers security updates for Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform 4.20 and 4.21.22 that fix multiple vulnerabilities. The primary issues include a remote code execution vulnerability in Samba's SAMR protocol (CVE-2026-4408) and a kernel vulnerability related to net/sched act_pedit (CVE-2026-46331). The Samba vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code, while the kernel issue involves extending the writable skb range per key. Red Hat has released updated container images and RPM packages to address these vulnerabilities. Users should upgrade their OpenShift clusters to these updated versions to mitigate the risks.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of CVE-2026-4408 could allow remote code execution with high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The kernel vulnerability CVE-2026-46331 also impacts system stability and security. Both vulnerabilities pose significant risks to affected OpenShift Container Platform deployments if left unpatched.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released updated container images and RPM packages that fix these vulnerabilities. Users of OpenShift Container Platform 4.20 and 4.21.22 should upgrade to these updated versions as soon as they are available in their release channels. Upgrades can be performed using the OpenShift CLI (oc) or the web console. Detailed upgrade instructions are provided in the official Red Hat documentation. Patch status is confirmed as fixed in these updated releases.
