AI-suggested
To mitigate the risk, applications using GitPython's Repo.clone_from() method should ensure that the process environment does not contain sensitive environment variables when cloning from untrusted sources. Alternatively, all Git repository URLs should be strictly validated and sanitized to prevent inclusion of environment variable tokens. If environment variables are changed, a service restart may be necessary for changes to take effect.
Description
A vulnerability in GitPython's Repo.clone_from() method allows an attacker to exfiltrate sensitive environment variables by supplying a specially crafted Git repository URL containing environment variable references. This can lead to disclosure of credentials or tokens when untrusted URLs are processed. The issue affects Red Hat products that use GitPython for cloning repositories.
