Red Hat recommends reviewing the Red Hat Satellite documentation for installation guidance of Red Hat Lightspeed in Satellite, but this does not mitigate the vulnerability. Customers with a Technical Account Manager (TAM) can seek direct assistance. If you cannot patch yet, avoid processing untrusted input through GitPython repository interaction functions.
Description
CVE-2026-42215 is a critical arbitrary command execution vulnerability in GitPython, a Python library used to interact with Git repositories. The flaw allows attackers to bypass security checks by providing specially crafted arguments to functions like Repo.clone_from(), Remote.fetch(), Remote.pull(), or Remote.push(), enabling unauthorized command execution. This vulnerability affects several Red Hat products that use GitPython. Currently, no effective mitigation or patch meeting Red Hat's criteria is available. Red Hat Lightspeed in Satellite includes this component and is offered as a Technology Preview container image.
