To mitigate the risk, ensure that applications using GitPython's Repo.clone_from() method to clone from untrusted sources do not have sensitive information stored in environment variables. Alternatively, implement strict validation and sanitization of all Git repository URLs before passing them to Repo.clone_from() to prevent environment variable expansion. If environment variables are changed, a service restart may be required for changes to take effect.
Description
A vulnerability in GitPython's Repo.clone_from() method allows a remote attacker to exfiltrate sensitive environment variables by providing a specially crafted Git repository URL. This URL can include references to environment variables that are expanded and sent to an attacker-controlled server during the cloning process, leading to information disclosure. The issue affects Red Hat products that use GitPython to process untrusted clone URLs.
