Red Hat has released updated unbound packages that address these vulnerabilities. Users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 should apply the security update available in unbound-1.24.2-3.el9_8.1 and related packages as detailed in Red Hat Advisory RHSA-2026:24369. Refer to https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 for update instructions. Applying these updates is the primary mitigation step.
Description
Multiple security vulnerabilities have been identified in the unbound DNS resolver packages used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9. These include a heap overflow leading to crashes, a denial of service via incorrect write offset counter in DNSSEC validation, and a use-after-free vulnerability that can cause denial of service or possible remote code execution. Red Hat has released security updates addressing these issues.
