Description

Redis is an advanced key-value store. It is often referred to as a data-structure server since keys can contain strings, hashes, lists, sets, and sorted sets. For performance, Redis works with an in-memory data set. You can persist it either by dumping the data set to disk every once in a while, or by appending each command to a log. Security Fix(es): * redis: Lua library commands may lead to integer overflow and potential RCE (CVE-2025-46817) * Redis: Redis Lua Use-After-Free may lead to remote code execution (CVE-2025-49844) For more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.

Technical Analysis

The advisory covers security fixes for Redis 6 in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4, specifically addressing CVE-2025-46817 and CVE-2025-49844. CVE-2025-46817 involves Lua library commands that may cause integer overflow potentially leading to remote code execution. CVE-2025-49844 is a use-after-free vulnerability in Redis Lua that may also result in remote code execution. Red Hat has issued updated redis:6 packages (version 6.0.9-5.module+el8.4.0+23585+fb4eb024.5) to resolve these issues. The advisory references Red Hat's errata RHSA-2025:19318 and provides links for applying the update.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code remotely on affected systems running vulnerable Redis 6 versions. This could lead to full system compromise or unauthorized control of Redis instances. The advisory rates the security impact as Important, indicating a high risk to affected systems if unpatched.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released updated redis:6 packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 that fix these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the security update as described in Red Hat's advisory RHSA-2025:19318 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. Since this is an official fix, applying the update fully mitigates the vulnerabilities. No additional mitigation steps are specified or required beyond applying the update.
