Red Hat advises ensuring all previously released errata relevant to your system are applied before installing or upgrading the Zero Trust Workload Identity Manager operator. If the operator's upgrade approval policy is set to 'Automatic' (default), upgrades will occur automatically when new versions are available. If set to 'Manual', administrators must approve upgrades manually. Users should follow the detailed mitigation procedures in the Red Hat security bulletin and monitor Red Hat advisories for any forthcoming fixes. No direct patch is currently provided for this vulnerability in the advisory.
Description
A vulnerability exists in Go's crypto/x509 package used by the Zero Trust Workload Identity Manager (ZTWIM) for Red Hat OpenShift. The certificate verification process fails to block trust in intermediate certificates associated with compromised Certificate Authorities (CAs). This flaw allows a remote attacker to impersonate legitimate servers by presenting certificates signed by these untrusted intermediates, enabling man-in-the-middle (MitM) attacks that compromise confidentiality and integrity of secure communications. Exploitation requires specific network positioning and attacker-controlled certificates. The vulnerability is rated Important by Red Hat and affects Go-based TLS clients and servers relying on standard certificate verification.
