Until a fix is available, avoid communicating with untrusted or unauthenticated S7 peers to reduce exposure to crafted malicious responses.

Description

snap7 versions up to 1.4.3 contain an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the TSnap7MicroClient::opReadArea() function. This flaw allows malicious S7 peers, such as rogue or impersonated PLCs, to overflow client buffers by exploiting an unchecked DataLength field. Crafted ReadVar responses can cause memcpy operations of up to 65535 bytes into caller buffers, leading to crashes and memory corruption in SCADA, HMI, or gateway processes.
