Technical Analysis

This vulnerability allows an attacker to cause file descriptor exhaustion in aiohttp by sending specially crafted multipart HTTP requests. The issue arises when a handler uses the Request.post() method, which may allocate an unlimited number of file descriptors, leading to resource exhaustion on the server. This can degrade service availability or cause denial of service conditions. The vulnerability affects aiohttp versions >=0.4.3 and <0.6.9. A patch is available to remediate this vulnerability.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause resource exhaustion by consuming an unlimited number of file descriptors via multipart requests, potentially leading to denial of service or degraded service availability for affected aiohttp servers using vulnerable versions.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available for this vulnerability. Users should upgrade aiohttp to version 0.6.9 or later to mitigate the risk of file descriptor exhaustion. No additional vendor advisory details are provided, so check the official aiohttp or related vendor advisories for the exact patch and upgrade instructions.
