Description

SPIP versions prior to 4.4.18 contain a critical remote code execution vulnerability in the editer_objet action. The vulnerability arises because the arg parameter resolves SQL table names without enforcing an allowlist on editable columns. Attackers with a valid nonce can inject malicious rows into the spip_jobs table. By supplying crafted values for arg=job/0 with specific fonction and args parameters, attackers trigger unserialization and execution of arbitrary PHP functions when the cron job queue is processed. This allows full remote code execution on the underlying system.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in SPIP before version 4.4.18 (CVE-2026-72710) involves improper validation of the arg parameter in the editer_objet action, which resolves SQL table names without restricting editable columns. This flaw permits attackers possessing a valid nonce to inject attacker-controlled rows into the spip_jobs table. When the cron job queue is drained, the injected data is unserialized and executed, enabling arbitrary PHP function execution on the server. The CVSS 3.1 score is 9.8, reflecting its critical severity with network attack vector, no privileges or user interaction required, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in remote code execution on the affected system, allowing attackers to execute arbitrary PHP functions with the privileges of the web server. This compromises confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the system. The vulnerability requires a valid nonce but no other privileges or user interaction, making it highly exploitable remotely.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in SPIP version 4.4.18. Users should upgrade to version 4.4.18 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided or necessary once patched.
