Description

Stoatchat versions before 0.15.5 have a denial of service vulnerability in the acknowledgement worker that handles mass mention messages. Authenticated users can exploit this by sending five crafted role-mention messages, causing all acknowledgement workers to terminate. This disables push notifications and mention badges across the deployment until the API process is restarted.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-100675 describes a denial of service vulnerability in stoatchat versions prior to 0.15.5. The flaw exists in the acknowledgement worker component responsible for processing mass mention messages. An authenticated user can send five specially crafted role-mention messages that cause the termination of all acknowledgement workers. This results in the disabling of push notifications and mention badges deployment-wide until the API process is manually restarted.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability causes a denial of service by terminating acknowledgement workers, which disables push notifications and mention badges for all users until the API process is restarted. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, only availability is affected.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in stoatchat version 0.15.5 and later. Users should upgrade to version 0.15.5 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. Until upgraded, restarting the API process will restore functionality after an attack. No other mitigations are specified.
