Description

SurrealDB versions prior to 3.3.0 have a denial of service vulnerability that can be triggered by query-capable users reading non-ASCII header values in embedded JavaScript. This can cause the server process to abort when such headers are accessed via certain JavaScript methods or returned from fetch endpoints.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109338 describes a denial of service vulnerability in SurrealDB before version 3.3.0. The flaw allows users with query capabilities to crash the server by reading non-ASCII header values in embedded JavaScript. Specifically, accessing these headers through methods like Headers get(), entries(), values(), getSetCookie(), or returning them from fetch() endpoints causes the server process to abort, resulting in a denial of service condition.

Potential Impact

An attacker with query privileges can cause the SurrealDB server to crash by exploiting this vulnerability, leading to denial of service. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity, only availability is affected.
