Published: 01/18/2024 (01/18/2024, 15:48:48 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: surrealdb

Description

SurrealDB versions before 1.1.0 contain a vulnerability in their HTTP REST API where special characters in the ID, DB, and NS headers are not properly parsed. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to send malformed HTTP requests that cause an uncaught exception, crashing the server and resulting in a denial of service.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-58368 affects SurrealDB versions prior to 1.1.0. The vulnerability arises from improper parsing of the ID, DB, and NS HTTP headers when they contain special characters. An attacker can exploit this by sending crafted HTTP requests with malformed header values, triggering an uncaught exception that crashes the server. This leads to a denial of service condition without requiring authentication.

Potential Impact

The impact of this vulnerability is a denial of service (DoS) caused by server crashes. There is no indication of confidentiality or integrity loss. The vulnerability can be exploited remotely without authentication, making it a high-severity issue due to ease of exploitation and service disruption.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in SurrealDB version 1.1.0 and later. Users should upgrade to version 1.1.0 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No vendor advisory content contradicts this; thus, upgrading is the recommended action.
