AI-suggested

Upgrade Symfony to versions 6.4.50 or later, 7.4.23 or later, or 8.1.11 or later where this issue is fixed. There is no indication that the vulnerability is mitigated by configuration changes alone. Applying the official patches is the recommended remediation.

Description

The Symfony HtmlSanitizer component's MetaRefreshAttributeSanitizer, intended to fix CVE-2026-48761, uses an overly narrow regular expression to sanitize meta tag refresh URLs. This flaw allows attackers to bypass sanitization and redirect users to untrusted sites in Symfony versions 6.1.x prior to 6.4.50, 7.x prior to 7.4.23, and 8.x prior to 8.1.11. The sanitizer fails to account for the full range of valid syntax defined by the WHATWG HTML Standard, causing some malicious URLs to bypass URL sanitization controls.
