AI-suggested

As a mitigation, applications should avoid using host placeholders in routes protected solely by path-based access controls or ensure that host requirements do not accept characters like '/'. Using framework.trusted_hosts to restrict allowed Host headers can help but may not fully mitigate the issue if the host requirement is permissive and the web server passes raw Host headers. Review and update Symfony to fixed versions when available.

Description

A vulnerability in Symfony Routing components CompiledUrlMatcher and UrlMatcher allows path-based authorization rules to be bypassed in certain versions. The issue arises because these components interpret host and path information differently, enabling unauthorized requests to reach protected controllers when routes define a host with placeholders. This affects Symfony versions prior to 5.4.56, 6.x prior to 6.4.50, 7.x prior to 7.4.23, and 8.x prior to 8.1.11. The vulnerability can be exploited if the application uses host placeholders in routes protected by path-based access controls and if the host requirement accepts certain characters like '/'.
