An official patch is available and should be applied to affected linux-azure kernel versions to resolve the issue. The vendor advisory confirms the fix has been implemented. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the update.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's KVM SVM implementation related to CR8 write interception when AVIC is activated or deactivated has been resolved. The issue caused KVM to leave CR8 write interception enabled after AVIC activation, which on its own is a performance problem but combined with a TPR synchronization bug, leads to fatal errors for Windows guests. This flaw affects certain linux-azure kernel versions and has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 5.5. A patch is available to address this issue.
