Linux hwe edge: In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: virtio_bt: clamp rx length before skb_put virtbt_rx_work() calls… (CVE-2026-46123)
In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: Bluetooth: virtio_bt: clamp rx length before skb_put virtbt_rx_work() calls skb_put(skb, len) where len comes directly from virtqueue_get_buf() with no validation against the buffer we posted to the device. The RX skb is allocated in virtbt_add_inbuf() and exposed to virtio as exactly 1000 bytes via sg_init_one(). Checking len against skb_tailroom(skb) is not sufficient because alloc_skb() can leave more tailroom than the 1000 bytes actually handed to the device. A malicious or buggy backend can therefore report used.len between 1001 and skb_tailroom(skb), causing skb_put() to include uninitialized kernel heap bytes that were never written by the device. The same path also accepts len == 0, in which case skb_put(skb, 0) leaves the skb empty but virtbt_rx_handle() still reads the pkt_type byte from skb->data, consuming uninitialized memory. Define VIRTBT_RX_BUF_SIZE once and reuse it in alloc_skb() and sg_init_one(), and gate virtbt_rx_work() on that same constant so the bound checked matches the buffer actually exposed to the device. Reject used.len == 0 in the same gate so an empty completion can no longer reach virtbt_rx_handle(). Use bt_dev_err_ratelimited() because the length value comes from an untrusted backend that can otherwise flood the kernel log. Same class of bug as commit c04db81cd028 ("net/9p: Fix buffer overflow in USB transport layer"), which hardened the USB 9p transport against unchecked device-reported length.

Technical Summary
The Linux kernel's Bluetooth virtio_bt driver calls skb_put(skb, len) where len is obtained from virtqueue_get_buf() without proper validation against the actual buffer size allocated and exposed to the device. The RX skb buffer is allocated as exactly 1000 bytes, but skb_put() can be called with a length greater than 1000 but less than skb_tailroom(skb), causing uninitialized kernel heap bytes to be included in the skb data. Additionally, len == 0 is accepted, which leads to virtbt_rx_handle() reading uninitialized memory. The fix involves defining a constant buffer size used consistently in allocation and validation, rejecting zero-length completions, and rate-limiting error logs. This vulnerability is similar to a previously fixed USB 9p transport buffer overflow issue.
Potential Impact
An attacker controlling the backend device can cause the kernel to read and expose uninitialized kernel heap memory, leading to potential information disclosure. The vulnerability also allows denial of service by causing the kernel to process invalid or empty packets. There is no indication of privilege escalation or code execution. The CVSS vector indicates local attack vector with low complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, high confidentiality impact, no integrity impact, and high availability impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1106.110~20.04.1, 5.15.0-1096.98, and 7.0.0-28.28.1 and later. Users should upgrade to these or later kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. Since this is not a cloud service, manual patching is required. There are no vendor advisories indicating no action is needed or that the issue is already mitigated without patching.

Technical Analysis
