Medium
Published: 07/08/2026 (07/08/2026, 20:16:00 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: pypdf2

Description

A vulnerability in the pypdf library prior to version 6.14.2 allows an attacker to craft a PDF with a page content stream containing a not terminated inline image using ASCII85 or ASCIIHex filters. This causes an infinite loop during parsing, such as when extracting page text. The issue is fixed in version 6.14.2.

Technical Analysis

The pypdf pure-python PDF library versions prior to 6.14.2 contain a vulnerability where a crafted PDF with a page content stream that includes a not terminated inline image using ASCII85 or ASCIIHex filters can cause an infinite loop during parsing operations like text extraction. This denial-of-service condition is resolved in pypdf version 6.14.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker can cause a denial of service by triggering an infinite loop in the PDF parsing process, potentially causing application hangs or resource exhaustion when processing maliciously crafted PDFs.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade pypdf to version 6.14.2 or later, where this infinite loop parsing issue is fixed.
