Technical Analysis

The vulnerability is a use-after-free in the xmlParseInternalSubset function of libxml2, affecting versions from 2.9.11 up to 2.11.0. An attacker can exploit this by sending specially crafted XML data that triggers improper entity resolution, leading to a denial-of-service condition. The issue is present in Ubuntu LTS releases 22.04 and 24.04 as indicated by the affected package versions. There are no known exploits in the wild and no vendor advisory or patch links provided in the input data.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a denial-of-service condition due to use-after-free memory corruption. This can cause the affected application or service using libxml2 to crash or become unresponsive. There is no indication of privilege escalation or code execution from the provided data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch links are provided in the input data. Users should monitor Ubuntu security advisories for updates addressing this vulnerability and apply patches once available.
