Description

Vault and Vault Enterprise versions 1.15.0 through 1.15.4 may expose sensitive information when an audit device is enabled with the 'log_raw' option. Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-0831 affects Vault and Vault Enterprise when an audit device is configured with the 'log_raw' option. This setting may cause sensitive information to be exposed by logging it to other audit devices regardless of their individual 'log_raw' configuration. The vulnerability affects versions from 1.15.0 up to but not including 1.15.5. A patch is available to remediate this issue.

Potential Impact

Sensitive information may be exposed through audit logs when the 'log_raw' option is enabled on an audit device, potentially leaking data to other audit devices that are not intended to log raw data. This could lead to unintended disclosure of sensitive information within the system's audit infrastructure.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available for this vulnerability. Users should upgrade Vault and Vault Enterprise to version 1.15.5 or later to remediate the issue. Until patched, avoid enabling the 'log_raw' option on audit devices if possible.
