Description

A memory corruption vulnerability exists in Vyper versions prior to 0.2.6 when performing function calls inside tuples or nested function calls. This occurs due to an incorrect pointer to the tip of the stack during such calls. The issue was fixed in Vyper version 0.2.6.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability involves memory corruption triggered by function calls within tuples or as arguments inside other function calls in Vyper smart contracts. The root cause is an incorrect pointer referencing the tip of the stack, leading to unsafe memory operations. This flaw was addressed and resolved in pull request #2186 and included in the Vyper 0.2.6 release.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can cause memory corruption during contract execution, potentially leading to unexpected behavior or incorrect return values. There is no indication of privilege escalation, remote code execution, or data leakage from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to Vyper version 0.2.6 or later, where this memory corruption issue has been fixed. No additional mitigation steps are required as the patch fully addresses the vulnerability.
