Description

YesWiki versions prior to 4.6.7 have an authorization bypass vulnerability in the ApiService::isAuthorized() function. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to access admin-only API routes when public API mode is enabled. Exploitation can lead to unauthorized configuration changes and manipulation of backup archives, including listing, downloading, or deleting them.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in YesWiki before version 4.6.7 exists in the ApiService::isAuthorized() method, which improperly authorizes API requests. When public API mode is enabled, unauthenticated attackers can bypass authorization controls to invoke admin-only endpoints such as api/ci/update_config and api/archives. This enables attackers to overwrite configuration settings and manage backup archives without authentication.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a complete compromise of the affected YesWiki instance's administrative API functions. Attackers can modify configuration parameters and access or delete backup archives, leading to potential data loss, service disruption, and unauthorized control over the application.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade YesWiki to version 4.6.7 or later, where this authorization bypass vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigations are indicated. Patch status is not explicitly stated but the version boundary implies an official fix in 4.6.7.
