PyMuPDF versions through 1.28.2 contain a path traversal vulnerability in the font branch of the extract_objects() function. This vulnerability allows an attacker to craft a malicious PDF, EPUB, XPS, or FB2 file with a BaseFont name that includes encoded path separators, which decode to directory traversal sequences or absolute paths. As a result, arbitrary files can be written outside the intended output directory without authentication or elevated privileges. The issue was fixed in a commit identified as b2c8f3a.
