OpenBao has Decompression Bomb via Unbounded Copy in OCI Plugin Extraction (DoS) (CVE-2026-39396)CVE-2026-39396
0

OpenBao versions prior to 2.5.3 contain a vulnerability in the OCI plugin downloader where a decompression bomb can cause a denial of service by exhausting disk space. The vulnerability arises because the plugin extraction function streams decompressed tar data without an upper bound on bytes written before verifying integrity. An attacker controlling the OCI registry can serve a crafted image that decompresses to an arbitrarily large file, causing disk exhaustion before the SHA256 hash check detects tampering. This issue is fixed in version 2.5.3.
