Behind the Refund: From GST Phishing to Remcos RAT Through a Multi-Stage .NET Infection Chain 0 A sophisticated phishing campaign targets Indian businesses and taxpayers by impersonating Government of India GST refund notifications. The attack uses a multi-stage .NET infection chain starting with a malicious RAR archive containing a .NET executable that hides payloads using bitmap steganography. Subsequent stages deploy Remcos RAT entirely in memory, establishing persistence via PowerShell scripts and registry modifications. The malware enables remote command execution, keylogging, credential theft, file manipulation, and system reconnaissance. The command-and-control infrastructure uses dynamic DNS with randomized subdomains. This financially motivated campaign specifically targets India and the British Indian Ocean Territory.
