APT37, a DPRK-backed threat group, has launched a new campaign called Ruby Jumper, utilizing Windows shortcut files to initiate attacks with newly discovered tools. These tools include RESTLEAF, SNAKEDROPPER, THUMBSBD, and VIRUSTASK, which work together to deliver surveillance payloads like FOOTWINE and BLUELIGHT. The campaign leverages removable media to infect and communicate with air-gapped systems. Key features include the use of Ruby for shellcode-based payloads, abuse of cloud storage services for command and control, and sophisticated techniques for bypassing network isolation. The malware demonstrates advanced capabilities in system reconnaissance, data exfiltration, and persistent surveillance.

A sophisticated phishing campaign has been detected that utilizes a multi-stage approach to evade detection. The attack begins with a procurement-themed email containing a PDF attachment. This PDF redirects victims to another PDF hosted on trusted cloud storage, which then leads to a fake Dropbox login page. The attackers exploit trusted platforms and harmless file formats to bypass security measures. The campaign uses social engineering tactics to harvest credentials, which are then exfiltrated to attacker-controlled infrastructure via Telegram. This method proves effective by leveraging legitimate business processes, trusted file types, and reputable cloud services to appear authentic and bypass automated security checks.

A sophisticated espionage campaign targeting Indian entities has been identified, masquerading as the Income Tax Department of India. The activity is associated with the SideWinder APT group, which has evolved its toolkit to evade detection by mimicking Chinese enterprise software. The campaign uses DLL side-loading techniques with legitimate Microsoft Defender binaries to bypass EDR, and utilizes public cloud storage and URL shorteners to evade reputation-based detections. The threat actors employ geofencing behavior, focusing on systems in South Asian timezones. The attack chain includes phishing emails, fraudulent websites, and malicious payloads delivered through file-sharing services. The final stage involves a resident agent that beacons to a command-and-control server, mimicking Chinese endpoint tool protocols.

Attackers are exploiting Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files to execute sophisticated phishing attacks. SVGs, typically used for scalable images, can contain embedded JavaScript that executes when opened in a browser. The attack chain involves sending SVG attachments via spear-phishing emails or cloud storage links. When opened, the SVG file launches in the default web browser, allowing embedded scripts to execute and redirect victims to phishing sites mimicking trusted services. The attackers use deceptive subject lines and innocuous-looking attachment names to avoid suspicion. The SVG contains encrypted malicious code that, when decrypted, redirects to a phishing site protected by a Cloudflare CAPTCHA gate. Organizations are advised to implement deep content inspection, disable automatic SVG rendering, educate employees, and monitor for unusual redirects and script activity.
