CVE-2024-27876 is a high-severity vulnerability in Apple iOS and iPadOS where unpacking a maliciously crafted archive may allow an attacker to write arbitrary files due to a race condition. This issue affects multiple Apple operating systems and has been addressed with improved locking mechanisms. The vulnerability is fixed in iOS 17.7, iPadOS 17.7, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and several macOS versions including Sequoia 15, Sonoma 14.7, and Ventura 13.7, as well as visionOS 2. The vulnerability has a CVSS score of 8.1, indicating a high impact on confidentiality and integrity, but no known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.
